Former President Barack Obama is looking to fill more than 150 roles for his presidential center, opening soon on the South Side of Chicago.

As AFROTECH™ previously reported, the Obama Presidential Center, first announced in 2015, is expected to open in June 2026 and is an $800 million project, making it the most expensive presidential center in the nation’s history. The 19-acre center is intended to serve as a “global center for change,” providing space for leadership development and civic engagement, particularly for young adults already driving positive change in their communities.
The center will feature a fruit and vegetable garden, a world-class museum, a branch of the Chicago Public Library, an athletic facility, and more, offering community events, exhibits, music, movies, and workshops, according to its website.
“I could not be more excited because I know people here on the Southside of Chicago, and visitors from all around the world are going to be able to use this space in an active way,” Obama said in a video shared by the center.
Center Is Seeking Full-Time Employees
What’s more, the Obama Presidential Center will provide an economic boost to the area. In terms of job creation, the center plans to fill more than 150 full-time roles, ABC 7 Chicago reports. These employees will be key to how guests experience the center and will also represent “the diverse fabric of our nation and embody our values,” the center’s website states.
Those working at the center will align with a value system that upholds “hope, courage, empathy, integrity, accountability, community, inclusivity, pragmatism, resilience, and imagination.”
“When people come here, we want them to feel what makes the South Side so special, the mix of warmth and grit, the sense of humor that can brighten any day,” Obama explained, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
